PRIVACY

How Poppin handles your data.

Last updated 2026-05-05.

The short version

  • Location is read only while the app is open. There is no background tracking.
  • Venues see aggregated trends, not your identity, exact location, or movement history.
  • Demographic insights are only visible above privacy thresholds — small groups stay invisible.
  • You can delete your account at any time. Deletion cascades through every table that stores your data.

What we collect

We collect only what is needed to make discovery + check-ins useful:

  • Account: email (or Apple/Google identifier) and an optional display name.
  • Optional profile: home city and birth year. Used for aggregated insights only — never shown to venues directly.
  • Foreground location: latitude, longitude, and accuracy when the app is open and you are using a feature that depends on it (map, distance, check-in).
  • Check-ins: the venue you tapped, the time, and the location used to validate eligibility.
  • Engagement: which venues you viewed, tapped directions for, or checked into, used in aggregate to show what is popular.

What we do NOT collect

  • Background location, ever. Poppin does not request the always-allow permission.
  • Personal movement trails or location history beyond the points needed to validate a check-in.
  • Any data we would sell.

What venues see

  • Aggregated venue page views, direction taps, check-in counts, deal/event taps.
  • Crowd level labels (Quiet / Getting active / Busy / Packed) — only above the 3-active-check-in threshold.
  • Demographic ranges — only when a venue has subscribed to Pulse Pro and only when above privacy thresholds.
  • Never: usernames, emails, individual identities, exact user locations, or per-user histories.

Your controls

  • Toggle individual notifications inside the app under Privacy & notifications.
  • Opt out of contributing to aggregated insights.
  • Delete your account and all associated data with one tap.
  • Email privacy@poppin.app for any data request.

Third parties

Poppin uses:

  • Supabase — database, authentication, file storage.
  • Apple, Google — sign-in providers if you use them.
  • Stripe — venue subscription billing only. Never used for consumer payments.
  • Expo push services — only for the notifications you opt into.

Changes

We will update this page when our practices change and notify you in the app for material changes. Continuing to use Poppin after notification means you accept the update.
